Everyone has a different journey they take in life. It begins at birth and continues on as we get older; taking us through different stages and level of difficulties. We learn how to crawl, and then walk, how to speak; in school we face challenges in learning new material increasing our knowledge as we get older. Let’s not forget the competitive nature we have with our fellow peers. All these different challenges and stages of our life are journeys we must undergo to be the person we are.
So why would anyone choose a journey that would put their health in danger, shorten their life span, cause depression or anxiety; to an extreme, in some cases, of making them a social outcast in life. One of the greatest journeys or challenges we face is ourselves; we make excuses why we should not confront a certain challenge, whether it is choosing a career in life or in this case exercising to prolong and live a healthier happier life. It is easier to say, “I don’t have time to exercise”, “I’ll start on Monday”, “The kids drain me”, “I have to much work to do”, I’m to Old for that non sense”, or simply and the most damaging excuse of all “I can’t do it”. The “mental challenge”, before you even begin the journey, your negativity has prevented you from doing it. You could see this type of challenge in all aspects of your life, sometimes it’s not due to you, but because someone always said “you can’t do it”, “there are more important things you need to worry about”, and so on. Well I’m here to say that there is nothing more beautiful and important than your happiness and health.
If we accept this great Journey into Life, that is, accepting the greatest challenge of all keeping ourselves physically and mentally fit, we would see that the aspects of our lives that are negative ones will become positive ones. By this I mean having more energy to do the things life has to offer, going dancing, participating in a run or walk, going to the beach or mall and not being out of breath, having more energy at work to get things done and not be so tired at the end of the day to enjoy the evening with your significant other or your children. Of course the mental aspect of being alert and not feeling depressed, increased confidence or not having anxiety attacks is an important benefit. Not to mention that, not only do you feel better but you look damn good! Yes, let’s be a little vain, why not, if you sacrifice your self and exercise and have proper nutrition and do this for the rest of your life, boast about it! “I look good”, “I feel great”!! That is the benefit of exercise and good nutrition. On the other hand, what is the benefit of not sacrificing your self and eating like the world is going to end tomorrow and not exercise; “I look like crap”, “I feel like crap”, how come we don’t boast about that, NO! we simply make excuses, until we find ourselves in the emergency room of a hospital awaiting bypass surgery or our blood pressure is so high that we can barely take a breath, then we say “ I THINK I should start exercising”. (DUH!!)
Listen folks! There is no mystery to being healthy; it is simply a choice we must make. Do we want to feel and look good and have a long and happy life, or do we want to feel and look like crap and live a short and miserable life; or for some, a long and agonizing one. I’m not saying it is going to be easy, because it’s not, but as you go forward in this journey you will find that it was not as hard as you thought and at one point it will become enjoyable and addicting.
This website, the stories and pictures within it, are a peek into my family, friends and people we have trained, to undertake the Journey into Life. You will read, hear, and witness the struggles that we overcame to become healthier and more pro-active people in life. I hope that by sharing this small part of our lives, it will motivate you in doing the same, in choosing a healthier lifestyle. One thing to always remember is that every journey starts with one small step; guide yourself by the people who have taken that same step before you. Read about exercise and nutrition, get a personal trainer (a good one) ask them specific questions, get a physical before you start, that way you know your starting point, the last thing you want is to hurt your self and then have to start all over again or not be able to continue at all. Above all when you begin your Journey into Life, take it as an adventure, enjoy it, don’t think of it as a chore or something you have to do, it is as if you were in a Raiders of the Lost Ark movie and you were Indiana Jones going on all those different adventures, everyday will bring some new exciting challenge for you to overcome.
Take your life back; give your self the best gift anyone can ever give you, your health! Not only for your self but for the people who care about you as well, after all, they want you around for a long time to.
